Suspension repair in Hammonton, NJ Clunks, wander and uneven wear.

Shocks, struts, springs and steering parts for cars, pickups and work trucks, at J&L in Hammonton.

A truck wheel and hub off on the lift arms, brake work in progress
Suspension & steering

It should drive straight and quiet.

Suspension wears slowly, so you get used to it. The clunk over bumps and the constant correcting at the wheel aren’t normal.

Worn shocks and struts, tired springs and loose steering parts all change how a car stops, steers and handles. On South Jersey back roads and farm lanes, they get a workout.

The shop finds the worn parts, replaces what needs it and tells you what can wait. And when the problem is rust rather than wear, the fab shop is in the same building.

Signs

What a worn suspension feels like.

Clunks over bumps

Knocks from the front or rear on potholes and railroad crossings.

Wandering

The car drifts and you’re always correcting the wheel.

Bouncing

It keeps bouncing after a bump, or dives hard when you brake.

Uneven tire wear

Inside or outside edges wearing faster than the middle.

Sagging

One corner sits low, or the body rolls hard in turns.

Steering play

Loose, vague steering, or a wheel that won’t come back to center.

Trucks & rust

When it’s the frame, not the shocks.

On older trucks, a sagging rear end can be a rotted spring hanger or frame rail. The fab shop cuts out the rotted steel and welds in new rails, crossmembers and hangers.

See welding & fabrication for a frame repair from start to finish.
