Diesel engine repair

Diesel engines, rebuilt in house.

Diesel repair and full rebuilds, including the non-computer Detroits, on the bench at 586 Tenth Street.

The bench

The shop other shops send engines to.

A diesel rebuild is machine work, and most shops do not have the machines.

Boring, pressure checks, cylinder heads, rods, pistons and king pins all happen here, on site, next to the bay the engine came out of. Nothing gets crated up and shipped to a third party, and nothing waits a fortnight for someone else’s schedule.

The work order

Down to the bare block.

Full rebuilds

Complete engine reconditioning, taken down and built back up.

Non-computer Detroits

The older Detroit diesels, rebuilt by people who have done them before.

Cylinder heads

Heads reconditioned, valves done, surfaces trued.

Boring & honing

Cylinders bored to size for a rebuild or a bigger displacement.

Pressure checks

Heads and blocks pressure checked before the money goes in.

Rods, pistons & pins

Rods resized, pistons fitted, king pins pressed.

On the bench

Heads, blocks and cranks.

Why in house

Shipping an engine out costs you weeks.

The usual route for a diesel rebuild is that the shop pulls the engine, crates it, and sends it to a machine shop two counties away. Then everybody waits.

Here the engine comes out of the bay and goes onto the bench in the same building. Boring, heads, pressure checks and assembly all happen on site, which is why the trucks, the farm equipment and the boats all end up at the same address. One shop, one schedule, one person to ask how it is going.

Questions

Straight answers.

Anything else? Call (609) 704‑8211.

Do you rebuild diesel engines?

Yes, including full reconditioning. The machine work happens here rather than being shipped out, which is the part that usually decides how long a rebuild takes.

Do you work on older Detroit diesels?

Yes. Non-computer Detroit engine rebuilds are a normal job for this shop.

What machine work can you do in house?

Boring, pressure checks, cylinder heads, rods, pistons and king pins. If an engine needs a complete reconditioning or just one valve worked on, it gets done here.

Can other shops send me work?

Other shops already do. If you are a garage that needs machine work on an engine you have pulled, call (609) 704‑8211 and talk it through.

Do you do gas engines too?

Yes. The machine shop covers small to mid-size engines, gas and diesel, for cars, trucks, equipment and boats.

How long does a rebuild take?

It depends entirely on what the teardown finds and what parts are available, and anyone who quotes you a time before looking is guessing. Call the shop and they will give you a straight answer once they have seen it.
